Tuscan Style Garden Design:
The Brief
An old tennis court was to be repurposed into an entertainment area complete with a seating area under a pergola, fire pit and 6 large raised timber vegetable planters. The newly built area had to be sustainable, irrigated, and embrace features of Tuscan style garden design, as well as include easy access from the house and living area, down to the lower part of the property and new outdoor space.
The Result
A beautiful timber pergola was constructed as the centrepiece of the court space and recycled earth bricks were laid as the ground surface. What Tuscan style garden design would be complete without terracotta pots - these pots of jasmine at the feet of the pergola will eventually grow up to provide a natural shade cover over the long centre table and seating. Timber is repeated in a large wide staircase built down the embankment whilst the natural deco filling each step brings together all the Tuscan hues seen in the bricks and other earthen pots filled with olive, lemon and lime trees and herbs. The raised vegetable garden beds are filled with a mix of edibles, waterwise plants and standard white iceberg roses to complement the Tuscan natural country garden look and feel. A new garden bed of a mass planting of dwarf agapanthus was created to beautify a dead end corner of the new garden space whilst providing an ambling rock and deco pathway leading down from a water tank and pump. The end result was a very successful and aesthetically pleasing new entertainment area for my clients.
